Spring is flashing by, even though it just got here. Lots of blue skies, white clouds, green trees, and new growth. Same in the Web3 / blockchain scene, too! (Minus the trees.)

From NY AI, er, Tech Week to NFT.NYC to Permissionless, June is busy! Check out the blockchain-related events below. Gentle reminder: this is not a complete list of everything going on, #DYOR tiger.

EVENTS
NY TECH WEEK JUN 2 - 8
This should really be called NY AI week. A gazillion AI tech meetups. Which is fine, but if you want to stay focused on blockchain, here’s BABS’ hot tip for sussing out the Web3 meetups:
1. Go to this link
2. Type in “blockchain” in the filter box to the right. It will pop up a lovely short list.
3. Then go back and type in “web3”, rinse and repeat.
MON JUN 2
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce at PubKey
Dang Pubkey, way to reel in the VIP DC suits! BABS has been following Commissioner Peirce for a couple of years, its nice to see her have a moment in the sun after toiling in Gensler’s shadow for so long. And, I just found out her name is pronounced “Purse”. (Shows you how much cable news I watch.)

BABS (was not much) out on the town in May 🌃
Upon finishing the Crypto Skeptics Guide to Stablecoins ebook, Kala took some downtime to start researching the idea of a stablecoin (or coins) for women’s financial empowerment.
Suit Show: Update from DC
Stablecoins in the Spotlight
As mentioned, stablecoins are having a moment. Mostly because of pending legislation.
To summarize the basics:
Both bills seek to integrate stablecoins into the U.S. financial system securely. The STABLE Act prioritizes stringent federal control to mitigate risks, potentially limiting the entry of new players.
In contrast, the GENIUS Act offers a more flexible approach, aiming to foster innovation while maintaining essential safeguards. Dual state and federal oversight and allows for a broader pool of possible entrants from the state and federal level.
Industry watchers expect action on stablecoins legislation by summer 2025. This shift shows that policymakers now recognize stablecoins are here to stay and that they will play a major role in the future of money.
Need to brush up on your stablecoin basics? Know someone who hates crypto but needs to know about stablecoins? (yeah we all do).
Check out The Crypto-skeptic Guide to Stablecoins.
